Keep Your Film Location Safe by Taking Action on Coronavirus

The current coronavirus pandemic is affecting our film and television industry in a multitude of ways. We all genuinely care about our cast, crews, and clients’ health and welfare while we’re on location. However, with many call sheets ranging from 10 to 50 people, our current ability to safely shoot in closed environments is a big issue. That’s why using an experienced environmental services company (vs. a typical “cleaning service”) to proactively administer coronavirus cleaning and disinfection on locations, studios, production offices, and trucks pre-shoot and post-shoot is important. It could reduce both the risk of contracting Covid-19 and the risk of liability and lawsuit as the legal landscape for worker liability claims evolves.

CBI is a proactive environmental services solution

Cliff Berry, Inc. (CBI) is an expert in environmental cleanup and decontamination in Florida for over 60 years. CBI is currently expanding its services to support the film and television industry throughout Florida with proactive cleaning and disinfection of the Coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2). Moving Picture Rental is partnering with CBI, to provide these services and they’ve appointed film and television veteran David Wells, MPR President, their Film and Television Liaison.

Several critical differentiators set CBI’s environmental services apart from the competition:

  • CBI administrative and support staff overseeing the film and television location disinfecting have specialized roles:
    • Health and Safety Director
    • In-House Certified Environmental Trainers (CET)
    • CHHM (Certified Hazardous Materials Managers)
  • Highly-trained employees performing the work in the field have HAZMAT and OSHA certification and equipped with specialized equipment to provide proactive disinfection.
  • Employees wear full-face Scott respirators with OVA cartridge (organic vapor) or P100 cartridge filters.
  • Current South Florida clients using CBI’s coronavirus disinfection services: Broward County and Port Everglades facilities, large Fort Lauderdale oil corporations and power utilities, and Tropical Acres restaurant.

How does CBI decontaminate, disinfect, and clean?

  • Fogging

Fogging is an effective way to conduct a SARS-CoV-2 Coronavirus cleaning. Technicians spray Ultra Low Volume (ULV) fogging in interior and exterior environments. These are CDC approved disinfectant chemicals that are atomized into liquid droplets. Then they’re dispersed into the atmosphere through large air volumes at low pressure. The mist falls onto the floor, clings to walls and doors, and other surfaces and dries within 20 minutes. Fogging is appropriate in the following environments:

    • Studios
    • Commercial buildings
    • Garages
    • Grip truck cargo areas and cabs
    • Production truck cabs and cargo areas
    • Wardrobe Trailers with wardrobes on racks covered with plastic
    • Anywhere there is no artwork or fine furniture.
    • Additionally, employees use foggers to disinfect air-conditioning air intakes (plenums & return air vents) and A/C output vents.
Hand Work / Wipe Down

Manual surface cleaning is one of the best defenses for coronavirus. CBI employees focus on high touch point surfaces, but treat all hard surfaces 7 feet and lower. When they complete the work, they seal towels in a 50-gallon drum and send them for incineration via EPA guidelines.

What are the chemicals/disinfectant products used?

Only products that are endorsed and approved by CDC Guidelines for Coronavirus disinfection.

The CBI and MPR Partnership

CBI is working diligently to limit the coronavirus’s spread, implementing vast knowledge and resources for over the past 60 years. Call David Wells at MPR at 305-409-0009 to consult or book your production location’s fogging and cleaning.  We have a 24/7 on-call emergency response, available throughout Florida and can provide hazmat trained field workers to continue to disinfect throughout the shoot day.
