The LiteMat 1 is the kind of light you don’t appreciate until you’re on a job where nothing else works. We picked up our first one maybe five years ago, mostly because a DP kept asking for it. Sat in the rental inventory for a while. Then one day we’re doing product shots for a pharmaceutical client in Tampa—had to light the inside of a medical device about the size of a deck of cards. Suddenly that weird little 5.5″ × 11″ panel was the only thing that made sense.

The LiteMat 1 weighs 0.75 pounds and puts out 1,367 lumens at 6000K. It draws 25W, which means you can run it off a Gold Mount battery for basically an entire shoot day without swapping. The hybrid color temp goes from 2600K tungsten up to 6000K daylight, so you’re matching whatever ambient light is already there.
Most of our clients rent it for product work. Jewelry photography where you need a clean reflection in the metal. Automotive detail shots—instrument clusters, that kind of thing. Sometimes it’s beauty work where the eyelight needs to be small enough that it doesn’t show up as a big square in the talent’s pupils.
Where This Light Actually Gets Used
We’ve had gaffers tape it inside refrigerators for food commercials. Behind laptops for corporate Zoom-style content. One crew used it to light the inside of an oven for a cooking show. The thing is small enough that you can hide it pretty much anywhere, and at 0.75 pounds it stays put with standard gaffer tape.
The color accuracy is the same as the bigger LiteMats—CRI 95 and TLCI 95 at daylight, CRI 97 and TLCI 96 at tungsten. So if you’re already using a LiteMat 4 S2 or 2L S2, everything matches. No color correction needed when you’re cutting between cameras or mixing light sources.
For Miami and Orlando social media work, this light works well because it’s battery-powered and you can move fast. Same thing for real estate shoots across Fort Lauderdale—small enough to tuck into tight spaces, bright enough to actually contribute to the shot.
Battery Life
At 25W you get about 6 hours on a 95Wh battery at full output. Double that on a 190Wh battery. We’ve had DPs run multiple LiteMat 1 units all day on the same set of batteries without issues. The power efficiency is legitimately good.

How long does it run on battery?
About 6 hours on a 95Wh Gold Mount battery at full output. Closer to 12 hours on a 190Wh battery. We’ve done full-day product shoots on a single battery without issues.
